Norton ghost 14 acronis

I'm sure TI will be able to do backups to the external USB hard drive with useful options like "incremental" and "differential". But I'm unsure how much of my Ghost functionality it will have, and therefore whether I will need to retain it. So I have the following questions:. Sorry for so many questions. Please keep the answers simple - I'm a retired pensioner, not a young "geek" :. True Image can do all of what you ask.

No problem in asking questions - much better to ask them ahead of time! TI can be run from bootable media. Personally, this is the only way I use TI. You have a wide range of choices of what to use for the bootable media, and the way TI runs from the various bootable media.

Here are a few of the options:. Linux-based bootable media versions. Another of these versions is downloaded from your user account as an ISO image file, that you can then burn to a CD yourself.

So from these two Linux-based versions alone you have a range of bootable media that one can use. These Linux versions do have one problem in having sometimes inadequate driver support for your particular hardware. But they operate independently of any installed operating systems and are full GUI applications.

BartPE Preinstalled Environment version. This is a "Windows-like" environment that is based on core Win XP functionality you have to have a XP installation disk to make this work. This has better driver support than the Linux versions, and runs independently of any installed operating system. WinPE Preinstallation Environment version. This has the best driver support than any of the previous versions, and I use the WinPE version exclusively myself. You have many options and choices available with True Image!

Thanks for the detailed and informative response. It sounds as if I shall be able to do all I want to do, even though the "learning curve" looks a bit steep! I hadn't appreciated the Linux angle. My son gave me a version of Ubuntu on a bootable memory stick, and I used that for a while to make images of my C: drive on the external USB hard drive. I simply ran a script he had prepared for me.

As I recall, it was possible because Linux can treat a whole partition just like a file. I'm guessing the Linux-based bootable media versions of TI do something similar but presumably with many more configuration options.

I would want to run 1 and 2 from outside Windows using a bootable memory stick, and 3 from within WindowsXP. Steve, Be careful in your use of the term "cloning" because it has different meanings to TrueImage users. In that review, he wrote: "One important word of warning before you try out these products: Never install more than one on your system at the same time. These utilities use low-level disk-access features built into Windows, and if you have two simultaneously installed - even if only one is running - one or both won't work.

If you decide to try out more than one, be sure to completely uninstall the first and restart your system before installing the next. Joined: Jan 26, Posts: Question asked: "Out of curiosity, why do you want to have the 2 programs installed, and not just one?

Two safety nets are safer than one safety net. I was able to purchase Acronis True Image with rebates that refund all of the cost except taxes, which makes the purchase attractive. I need to test Acronis True Image before committing to using it permanently, and it would be easier for me to test Acronis True Image alongside Norton Ghost, without having to undergo the trouble of first removing Norton Ghost for the sole purpose of testing Acronis True Image. Skip to main content. Apologies if this has already been answered but I have looked around the forum and cannot find an answer to the issue I have. I have a Desktop with Norton Ghost 14 installed and two laptops, all with Vista Home Premium Sp2 installed and working on a wireless network.

All have both file and printer sharing enabled. Ghost is working fine on the desktop far better than Acronis True Image Home was and I would like to backup each of the laptops onto the desktop for safekeeping. In order to do this I need to manually install the Ghost Agent on each of the two laptops. The two issues I immediatly face are:. The instructions for deploying the Agent appear to differ for Vista.

I have tried to install Ghost on one of the laptops to see if that will also install the Agent, it does not appear to work.
