Hello friends. Suddently, when it was transmiting, the transceiver lost power. Incuding D1 D5 D6. Also I check the Q50 2N Every thing was fine. By taking meassurements I realize that there is no voltage on the Q50 collector… The problem was the L51 inductor with a very hight resistence.
I replaced it an the problem was resolve. I hope that my experience can help in similar problems. Great write-up. It turns out C24 had failed shorted and taken out Q08 and the voltage regulator with it! When I was done repairing the radio, I decided to align the s-meter before closing everything up. The manual says to adjust VR01 and VR11 to adjust bottom-end and top-end of the s-meter. I was doing this and getting nowhere when I discovered by happenstance that VR10 and VR11 appear to be the actual two resistors that should be used to adjust the meter rather than VR01 and VR11 — I think that was a mistake in the manual.
Unfortunately, I had already adjusted VR01 and have no idea where it was set in the beginning. I looked up the part in the schematics and found that it is a variable resistor on the RF board and is in series with a thermistor TH01 and that, together, they set some kind of bias on Q18 which is in the RF receive IF? I dug through the service manual in hopes to find anything about adjusting this circuit, but was unsuccessful.
